How to Get a New Spring Wardrobe on a Budget

by Advance Financial | March 22nd, 2018

It’s officially Spring and time to put away those sweaters and heavy coats. If you are in desperate need of a new wardrobe for spring but short on funds, then we’ve got some tips on how to score some new threads without breaking the bank.

Don’t Overspend on Basics

A good rule of thumb when shopping for an outfit is to not spend a ton on basic items like plain khaki shorts and solid T-shirts. These items can be paired with more eye-catching accessories and layers so it’s not necessary to overspend on the simpler part of your outfit. Some good places to get these items for cheap are Old navy, H&M, and even Walmart.

Take Advantage of Second Hand Stores

Give someone else’s clothes they no longer want another go around. Second hand clothes are nothing to be afraid of and a great way to save money! One of the best places to find steals on clothes is Plato’s Closet. Plato’s will also buy your old clothes you no longer want and give you cash on the spot or allow you to trade in for credit. Another good source to sell or buy used clothing is Poshmark. You can find anything from gym shoes to dresses on Poshmark and a lot of the items are higher end brands that are super cheap.

Purchase Versatile Items

It happens to the best of us while shopping. There is an item that catches your eye that you have to have. A show stopper piece that will make heads turn. Before you make that impulsive purchase, think of how many times and ways you can actually wear this item. It’s always smart to purchase clothing items that you can create multiple different outfits with. With Versatile clothing, you will get a lot more bang for your buck.

Repurpose Old Outfits

This will probably be more beneficial for the ladies, but guys can take a stab at it too. If you have pieces of clothing that just don’t fit or suit you anymore, you can get some scissors and needle and thread and refashion them! Turn old jeans into shorts, long-waisted, short-sleeved shirts into a dress, or a long maxi dress into a mini dress. There are tons of ideas for repurposing old clothes on sites like Pintrest that will give you a step by step guide.

Stock up for next Spring

Once the Spring season is over, hit up all the clearance racks and end of season sales to stock up for next year. You will get spring clothes for around 50%-75% off the original price. When doing this, just make sure to buy items that will not be out of style come
